ILLIT stuns with a twist in Japan teaser for new single ‘I Got Your Back’

K-pop girl group ILLIT has launched a Japan-market music video teaser for its new release, packed with a bold twist, as it sets out to win over audiences across the archipelago.

ILLIT (YoonA, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha) unveiled the music video teaser for the title track of its second Japanese single, ‘I Got Your Back’, via the official Hybe Labels YouTube channel on the 20th.

The video opens with the members in refreshing school-uniform outfits, creating a peaceful atmosphere. It then delivers a shocking twist: someone’s hand transforms into a bizarre monster. The scene, which showcases ILLIT’s trademark mysterious universe, maximised global fans’ curiosity and heightened anticipation for the full story.

‘I Got Your Back’, the title track, is a rock-genre song marked by dynamic drum and bass sounds. Even in uneasy moments of youth, it embeds a tight-knit friendship in the lyrics—one that protects each other. In particular, Japanese popular singer-songwriter Yuika took part in writing the lyrics, while well-known hit composer Kanata Okajima handled the composition, raising the track’s overall finish.

With its debut song ‘Magnetic’ ILLIT previously set major records by entering the US Billboard ‘Hot 100’ and sweeping Japan’s Oricon charts. Now, observers are watching to see whether this new track—an ILLIT collaboration with top-tier local producers—will spark another wave of box-office success.

All audio tracks from ILLIT’s second Japanese single will be released as a pre-release on 26, while the physical album will be officially released on 29. Ahead of that, ILLIT will meet local fans at the 'ILLIT LIVE PRESS START in JAPAN' shows taking place at Toyota Arena Tokyo on the 23rd and from the 25th to the 26th, putting on a dazzling finale to its tour.
